Lewis and Clark: Great Journey West

The Overview:
Follow legendary explorers Meriwether Lewis and William Clark as they journey across North America during the early 1800s, documenting the lands acquired by the United States in the Louisiana Purchase.

The Site:
Nominally seeking the North Passage that would give the young United States access from Atlantic to Pacific, Lewis and Clark were also tasked with documenting for science the people, plants, and animals that they encountered. Every plant, animal, and Native American tribe they encountered is profiled and scenes from modern points along the journey underscore the immense accomplishments of this expedition.  Original journal entries and hundreds of photos, and interactive maps document this historic journey.

The website was created as companion to the National Geographic IMAX movie, Lewis & Clark: Great Journey West.

Project completed as an employee of National Geographic.
